WINDWARD COAST

To protect the best marine sites on this coast, a marine reserve has now been set up. From the N tip of the island as far as Oyster Pond it includes the Ile de Tintamarre (see plan).
Once the haunt only of the experienced, yachts are now visiting this coast more and more. That said, it’s still worth being cautious in your approach
to the anchorages by avoiding poor visibility or when there’s a heavy swell running.
Caution Coming from Anse Marcel watch out for the Basse Espagnole, a shoal about 1M ENE of North Point (Pointe Nord), which is hard to see. To
avoid it, once you’ve altered SE and have North Point abeam, keep heading for about 1M towards the S end of Tintamarre Island.

Baie Orientale (Orient Bay)

This large bay is mostly open to the wind, but there are two partly sheltered anchorages in the lee of islets and coral reefs for a long or short stay, depending how settled the weather is.

- North anchorage is between Ilet Pinel and Petite Clef in 2–4m.

- South anchorage This is in the lee of Green Island or Green Cay (Ile Verte).

Oyster Pond

In everyone’s view Oyster Pond has an iffy entrance, and even more so when there’s a swell running. Luckily Captain Oliver’s Marina (VHF 16/67) has put in some buoys. They’re a bit swell-battered from time to time, but useful enough.
Ashore Whether yachties or guests cosily settled in Captain Oliver’s, visitors to Oyster Pond are a cosmopolitan bunch making for a lively atmosphere round the marina where. There are no specialists on site for repairs and maintenance. If it’s serious, specialists from Philipsburg or Marigot can usually get here easily except during the busiest part of high season. On the dock is the marina office, some shops, a minimarket with a chandlery shelf and the various charter company offices.
